the last of us

surviving means
someone else’s death
living in ruins
occasionally haunted
doing what’s necessary
to stay alive
stealing and killing
it’s always required
it’s either me
or them

I met her
born after the collapse
a wild, young girl
full of wonder
teaching her
watching her learn
grow and have purpose
I can’t deny it longer
I see my dead daughter
we became inseparable

in a world
where everybody
is fighting to survive
every single day
there’s no more judging
in the humanity
the infected
who was once normal
brutally killing them
we’ve lost our morals

saving her
in spite of the chances
no one can hurt her
with death I will dance
everybody can die
but her
choosing the lesser evil
even if it means
killing everyone
